본 논문에서는 <옹고집전>의 진가쟁주담(眞假爭主談)이 담아내고 있는 의미를 분석하기 위해, 프로이트의 이론을 원용하여 ‘아버지에 대한 양가감정’으로 해석하였다. <옹고집전>의 진가쟁주담은 결국 ‘아버지에 대한 징치’로 해석할 수 있고, 이때 가짜 옹고집은 아버지의 긍정적인 모습을 반영하고 있고, 진짜 옹고집은 아버지에 대한 부정적인 모습을 반영하고 있다는 것이다. 진가쟁주담에서 부인에 의해, 자식에 의해, 며느리에 의해, 한 집안의 가장이던 옹고집이 철저하게 외면당하고 쫓겨나게 되는 장면을 보면서, 독자들은 매우 흥미롭게 전복의 상황을 지켜보고 통쾌하게 여기게 된다. 특히 고집스러운 아비, 위압적인 아비, 냉정하고 무뚝뚝한 아비, 잔소리만 하는 아비에 대해 불만이 많은 사람이라면 더욱 그러할 것이다. 그리고 평소에 쌓아 두었던 아버지에 대한 불만, 적대감 등의 감정들을 표출시킴으로서 잠시나마 정서적 압박감에서 해방될 수 있다는 점에서 문학치료적 효과를 거둘 수 있을 것이라 보았다. 이상적인 아버지상이라 볼 수 있는 가짜 옹고집에 의해 진짜 옹고집이 쫓겨났다가, 억압적이고 적대적인 아버지상에서 좋은 아버지로 거듭나는 과정은 가족들의 한풀이 과정이자, 옹고집의 마음 속에 있는 교만과 아집을 몰아내고 새로운 아버지로 거듭나는 자기승화의 과정이라 할 수 있다. 그리고 이 작품이 판소리 12마당에서 탈락되어 결국 소설로만 전해지게 된 이유는 첫째, 작품 내에 동일시하여 몰입할 긍정적 인물이 존재하지 않는다는 점이다. 둘째, 가짜 옹고집에 의해 진짜 옹고집이 패배를 거둘 때에 이를 적극적으로 후원하는 것은 가족들과 관가로 표상되는 현실제도인데, 이처럼 ‘현실 아버지상의 부정'이라는 주제상이 당대 사회에서 공개적으로 가창되는 것은 허용되지 않았기 때문이라고 보았다.
This paper analyzed the "Onggojipjeon" by "ambivalence toward a father" using the theory of Freud for identifying the meaning expressed by Jingajaengjudam in the "Onggojipjeon". Jingajaengjudam in the "Onggojipjeon" can be interpreted as the "discipline to the father". The fake Onggojip reflected the positive aspect of the father and the true Onggojip reflected the negative aspect of the father. As picturing the scene which Onggojip, the father of a family, was completely ignored and thrown out by his wife, his son and daughter-in-law in Jingajaengjudam, the readers are very interested in the reversal of the situation and feel highly delighted. In particular, the readers with more dissatisfaction on a stubborn father, a coercive father, a cold and blunt father and a scolding father will be more delighted. It will be effective literary therapy on the aspect that the readers can be free from the emotional pressure for a moment by expressing the emotions including complaints or hostility against a father accumulated in their mind. The process which a true Onggojip was thrown out by a fake Onggojip, the ideal father figure, and was reborn from the coercive and hostile father to a good father is the process which the family satisfy their resentment and the process of self-sublimation to the new father by expelling arrogance and obstinacy in his mind. There are two reasons why the "Onggojipjeon" was dropped from 12 Episodes of Pansori and transmitted only as a novel. First, there is no positive character which readers can be absorbed in by identifying themselves with the character. Next, the active support to a fake Onggojip defeating a true Onggojip is the actual system symbolized by a family and a government office. The theme “denial on a practical father figure” was not accepted as the episode to be sung publicly in a community at that time.
