현대 대학생들이 자신의 생각을 표현하기 위하여 써내는 글을 보면, 글의 논리적인 전개는 고사하고 기본적인 맞춤법이 무시되거나, 인터넷에 등장하는 신조어들이 버젓이 등장하고 있다. 때로는 학생들이 제출한 보고서가 인터넷 사이트를 통해서 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있는 자료들과 일치하는 경우도 많다. 대학생들이 쉽게 접할 수 있는 인터넷 정보의 바다는 기초적인 지식이나 교양을 닦아주는 역할을 하지 못한다. 인터넷에서 찾아볼 수 있는 자료들과 글들이 대학생들에게 기초적인 지식이나 교양을 닦아주기는커녕 오히려 대학생들의 글쓰기 기회와 능력을 저하시키는 원인이 되기도 한다. 또한 학생들은 입시위주의 주입식 교육과 취업 위주의 공부에 익숙해 있기 때문에 글쓰기에 많은 관심을 기울이지 못하는 사회의 현상들도 간과할 수 없다. 이러한 일들이 발생하는 원인은 대학에서 기본적으로 추구해야 하는 교양과정으로서 글쓰기 교육이 제대로 이루어지지 않았기 때문이다. 대학 교양과정에서 글쓰기 교육은 언어의 형식을 빌려 표현의 영역을 넘어서는 의사소통의 중요한 능력뿐만 아니라 사회가 요구하는 교양인의 중요한 자질을 가르치는 역할을 담당해야 한다. 또한 글쓰기 교육은 대학에서 배우는 방대한 양의 지식과 정보들을 효과적으로 분석하고 추론하여 자신의 생각을 도출해내고 글로 표현할 수 있는 능력을 배양해야만 한다. 본 논문은 먼저 대학의 교양과정의 일환인 글쓰기 교육에 대한 제언을 하기 위해 아리스토텔레스의 교양 교육의 목표를 살펴볼 것이다. 그리고 우리나라 대학의 교양과정에서 글쓰기의 현실과 문제에 대해 고찰하고, 대학 글쓰기 교육의 방향을 제안하고자 한다.

Reading writings written by university students, it is not difficult to find the newly-coined words that appear on the internet, ignorance of basic spelling, let alone the logical build-up. It is also frequent that reports submitted by students are identical with the materials easily found through the internet websites. Flood of information from the internet with easy access does not provide the basic knowledge or help enhancing cultivation. Rather, materials and writings that can be found from the internet is the reason lowering university students' writing opportunity and their ability. Also, since students are used to cramming education and study way focused on employment, these social phenomena, which do not concern much of the writing should not be overlooked. The reason of this problem is attributed to improper and insufficient writing education which ought to be pursued as a fundamental general education in university. The writing education from university general education should play the role as not only an important communicative ability which goes beyond the sphere of expression with the help of language format, but also to raise the significant qualification of cultured person which a society demands. In addition, the writing education should cultivate the ability of effectively analyse and infer the vast amount of knowledge and information learned from university to deduct one's opinion and express it into the writing. This paper will examine Aristotle's object of general education in order to make a proposal in regard to writing education, a part of general education in university. Then it would consider the reality and problem of writing in general education of Korean universities and, finally, suggest the way of writing education.
