이 글의 목적은 환경문제와 현대 과학-기술에 대한 무한한 신뢰 사이에 대두되는 딜레마적 상황을 해소할 수 있는 철학적 대안을 마련하는데 있다. 동시에 그 대안을 마련하기 위한 노력의 일환으로 환경문제의 근거가 되는 과학기술문명의 본질에 대해 진단하고 그 해결 방안을 모색하려는데 있다. 처방은 진단을 전제로 한다. 그런 점에서 대안 모색은 과학-기술의 본성적 측면에 초점을 맞추어 처방을 위한 진단이라는 차원에서 이루어지게 된다. 환경은 생명체가 존속할 수 있기 위한 존재기반이다. 동시에 과학기술 역시 인간 생존에 필수불가결한 요건임에 분명하다. 하지만 과학기술로부터 비롯되는 현대의 반환경적인 상황이 인류의 생존 문제와 직결된다는 점 또한 분명하다. 그렇다면 생명체의 존속이라는 차원에서 환경 문제를 도외시한 그 어떠한 접근방식도 올바른 방식이라고 보기 어렵다. 특히 과학의 기술적 적용에 따른 유용성의 제공은 인간 이성과 욕구 사이의 갈등적 상황을 야기할 수 있는 근거가 된다. 말하자면 도구적 이성의 영역 확장과 함께 자연의 수단화라는 한 축과 인간의 욕구 충족이라는 또 다른 축이 서로 맞물리면서 이성의 본래적 기능 상실과 자연의 파괴라는 원치 않는 결과를 야기할 수 있기 때문이다. 그러나 이성의 본래적 기능은 더 나은 진리와 가치를 추구하고 자신의 삶의 환경을 새로이 창출해내는 가치 지향적인 비판 능력에 있다. 결국 그 기능은 이성이 추구하는 목적에 따라 욕구(의지)를 통제해 나가는 이른바 목적-지도적인 역할을 수행하는데 있는 것이다. 따라서 현대문명의 반환경적 상황에 대해 비판하고, 인류의 투명한 미래를 확보하는 하나의 새로운 환경과 그러한 삶의 조건을 모색하는 일은 본래적 이성이 마땅히 해결해야 할 과제인 것이다.
This article aims to study at the next two goals. First, here I investigate critically science in which is the base of contemporary civilization in the original nature side. So this investigation is to see and study deeply the essential side of the science from the viewpoint of environment theory. In spite of the rationality concept of modern science that effects immensely in the contemporary, we may confirm the fact that it is applied to limitedly in its situation. Second, when we understand at least the cause of environmental problem that comes from science and it's technological application, the possible solution is to recover the essential side of goal and guidance that reason has and to keep the instrumental reason to be sufficiency of desire circumscriptively. When it is said that environment is technological civilization and its environment that is formed by human, environment is created differently in its respect according to the meaning and value that human gives to nature and seeks for.
