It has been a popular theory in China that He Dong Xue Shi was a minority group, not an aristocratic one. This author finds this existing theory untrue, which originated from the facts that Chou I Liang and Tang Chang Ju focused on the exodus of Xue Shi from Xue, but ignored their entrance into Xue, and that Wei Shou’s distortion had not been carefully scrutinized. Xue Shi became provincial leaders in Yen Chou with high integrity and reputation, and laid a foundation for a hierarchical aristocracy of South and North during the Nan Bei Chao era. They also advanced themselves to the central bureaucracy and fought against the northern barbarians. Xue Shi contributed to the unification of northern China by North Wei, a hugh territorial acquisition along with the increase of population, and the establishment of good government. They became important aristocrats, and secured many offices and titles, which was granted by Siao Wen Ti. In conclusion, He Dong Xue Shi was not a minority group, but an distinguish aristocratic one since the Wei Jin period.
