In this paper, we examined the technical aspects and characteristics of the stone manufacturing technology of dolmens and stone cist tombs from Pyeonggeo-dong Locality 3 (Sector I), Jinju, and looked into the social meaning of tomb building. Stone manufacturing technology represents the technological tradition of prehistoric communities, with stone material selection and stone manufacturing technology reaching its zenith following the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods. During the Bronze Age, stone manufacturing technology was no longer limited to tool manufacture and was applied to the construction of large structures. As a result of this, the utilization of stone materials came to display higher diversity and speciality. However, in applying stone manufacturing technologies to the building of structures, only techniques required for the process of tomb building were adopted. This demonstrates that stone material production or tomb building techniques were carried out by specialized individuals or a group. This also provides insight into the nature of social, economic, and cultural change which took place at this time.
