In March of the year 601CE the King of Wa 倭王 sent an envoy to Goguryeo and Baekje, and suggested that they attack Silla. They agreed and the three countries attacked. In February 602CE, the Japanese military had 25,000 troops stationed in Kyushu 九州. The Shilla King Jinpyeong 眞平王and his army were stationed on the South coast hinterland bases of Haman 咸安, the expected landfall of japanese army. In August of 602CE, the Baekje King Mu 武王 sent a force to take Ahmak catsle 阿莫城, but the attack was defeated by King Jinpyeong. It was possible that Silla troops crossed the border and attacked Paekche during this time as the Japanese expedition was delayed. The Baekje army then counterattacked with 40,000 troops, and a fierce battle was fought. The Baekje army was wiped out by Silla forces. Japan's expeditionary delay was fatal to Baekje. After the battle, Silla arranged to move in the direction of the southern coast of Haman in an effort to thwart the Japanese army, which was still stationed in Kyushu, should they decide to proceed with their invasion plans. Subsequent relations between Baekje and Japan deteriorated, ending in diplomatic retaliation.
