2013~2014년 두 해 동안 국내외에서 발표된 프랑스사와 이탈리아사 관련 연구 성과의 전반적인 특징은 단행본의 양적 증가, ‘신구의 조화’, 즉 기존 연구자와 신진 연구자의 ‘조화롭고 균형 있는’연구, 연구시기의 균형, 연구주제의 다양화, 그리고 연구내용의 발전과 심화로 요약될 수 있다. 먼저 단행본은 대중과의 학문적 소통을 위해 발간된 저서들과 여러 전문학술서가 조화롭게 공존하며, 다양하고 흥미로운 주제들에 대해 깊이 있는 내용들을 선보이고 있다. 조금은 논쟁적이고, 기존의 해석에 균열을 내며 비판하는 저서들을 통해 학문적 토론의 장을 마련하기도 하며, 프랑스사학계의 중요 업적들 다수가 우리말로 번역되어 학자들과 일반 독자들도 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 기회를 제공하기도 했다. 기존의 소위 원로급 학자들은 논문 뿐 아니라 그동안의 연구를 정리한 저서를 통해 후학들의 귀감이 되어준다. 비록 그 수는 미미하지만 새로운 신진 연구자들도 박사학위를 취득한 이후 왕성한 활동을 이어간다. 연구주제의 경우, 구체제(ancient régime), 프랑스혁명, 과거청산, 이주, 이민, 식민지 문제 등과 같이 이전에 낯익은 주제들과 함께, 서구의 타자관(타자인식), 제1차 세계대전, 교육, 68운동 등과 같은 비교적 새로운 주제들을 중심으로 연구자들의 활발한 연구활동이 진행되었다. 연구내용도 특정 주제에 대한 다양한 측면과 해석이 소개되며, 프랑스사의 틀안에서 그 성과와 의의를 논의하던 이제까지의 방식을 뛰어넘어, 유럽사, 더 나아가 세계사의 차원에서의 의미를 조망하는 방식으로 발전해 나갔다.
The general characteristics of French history and Italian history studies published in 2013~2014 can be summarized as quantitative increase in books, ‘harmony between old and new’ - ‘harmonious and balanced’ study between existing researchers and budding ones - , the balance of the study period, diversity of subjects, and the improvement and deepening of its contents. First, professional academic books coexist harmoniously with the books written for communication with general public, dealing with various and interesting subjects. Some critical books which rebut existing analysis offer a forum for academic debate and many translated books provide scholars and general public with a chance to access important achievements of french history academia. Senior scholars set a good example not only by their thesis but by the books that refine the previous studies. Small in number as they are, new researchers continue their study actively after doctor’s degree. As for the subjects of study, along with familiar ones including ancient regime, the French Revolution, liquidation of the past, migration history, and colonial issues, new subjects such as Others recognized in the West, the First World War, education, and 68 mouvement were actively addressed. Studies made its way beyond the discussion limited to the french history, introducing various aspects and interpretations on specific subject , and further surveying historical meaning in the perspective of world history.
