本稿では、蛍の風流意識と日本人の蛍情緒を古代から現代に至る文学作品から確認する。古代和歌の世界の蛍と中世以後の蛍狩の風流、そして近現代の小説の世界に現れた蛍描写の現象を検討してみることで、古代から現代までの日本人の蛍に託した情緒の在り方を確認し、どのような認識のもとで蛍という夏の景物を楽しんできたのかを考察する。それは和歌以来続いている四季を楽しむ韻文的な伝統の情緒が影響している現代の日本文化と日本人の蛍情緒の確認でもあり、時代の変化に伴う蛍情緒の変化の確認にもなるのである。
This study is an attempt to identify the sense for arts of Hotaru (‘firefly’) and the Japanese sentiments about Hotaru in literary works from the ancient to contemporary times. The world of ancient Waka, the arts of Hotarugari (‘hirefly hunting’) during and after the medieval era, and the descriptions of Hotaru in contemporary novels will be reviewed. Moreover, this study will verify how Hotaru is considered as the scenery of summer and how it is perceived. This will be a study about the influence of the poetic tradition of enjoying the four seasons since Waka was initiated, and it will also confirm the change of Hotaru arts in accordance with the flow of time.
