본고는 ≪빙벽을 깬다≫(1990), ≪폭양에 무릎 꿇고≫(1995), ≪당신의 사랑 앞에≫(1999) 3권의 시집을 중심으로 박두진이 추구한 시세계의 궁극적인 도달점을 살펴보고자 하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 점들을 확인할 수 있었다. 먼저 ≪빙벽을 깬다≫는 자연을 통해 낙관적인 기다림과 일방적인 기대를 신에 대한 줄기찬 찬양과 애소로 노래한 이전의 시들과는 다르게, 스스로 포용과 공생을 위해 스스로 큰 짐과 고통을 져야만 하는 희생과 사랑의 자세를 보여주고 있다는 점에서 큰 변화를 보였다. 다음으로 ≪폭양에 무릎 꿇고≫는 신앙시 모음인데, 이전의 신앙시와는 다르게 주님에게 가닿지 못하는 거리감과 외로움을 감상이나 감정 차원이 아니라 인간이 지닌 절대적 한계에서 오는 근원적 고독으로 노래하고 있다는 점에서 큰 차이를 보였다. 마지막으로 유고시집 ≪당신의 사랑 앞에≫는 그의 시가 추구한 ‘자연’→‘인간’→‘신’이라는 3단계 시작업이 도달한 궁극적인 지점이 어디인가를 잘 보여주고 있다. 언제나 이항대립적인 세계를 사이에 두고 옳고 바른 쪽만을 선택하여 매진하여 왔던 치열한 시정신과는 다르게 뭇 생명과 자연에 대한 따뜻한 포용과 공생의 시정신으로 발전하고 있다. 특히 그의 수석시 또한 이 무렵에 와서는 ‘자연’과 ‘신’을 ‘나’와는 구분하여 상대적으로 노래하던 방식에서 벗어나 ‘자연’과 ‘나’, ‘신’과 ‘나’, ‘너’와 ‘나’가 하나가 된 일체적 합일의 세계를 기쁨과 감사함으로 노래하고 있다. 박두진은 60년에 가까운 시력과 1천 편이 넘는 시편을 통해 마침내 그가 부르던 노래의 끝을 밟게 되었다. 물론 그보다 이른 시기에 스스로의 시작업을 정리 ㆍ 종합하면서 어떤 시인보다도 높고 귀한 세계에 도달하였지만, 시인은 거기에서 머물지 않고 스스로를 갱신하면서 더욱 높은 세계를 지향하게 된다. 특히 ‘수석’과 같이 매우 오랜 기간 동안 제한된 대상을 시의 오브제로 삼아 ‘자연’과 ‘인간’, ‘신’이라는 보편적 주제에 다가가고자 했던 치열한 자기탐색의 시정신은 높이 본받아야 할 덕목이라고 하겠다.

This study aims to identify the world of Park Du Jin’s poem, through the anthologies of Breaking of an ice ridge(1990), Kneel down in the burning sun(1995), In front of your love(1999), of the later part of his life. The poems of Breaking of an ice ridge are song of tolerance and living together by self－sacrificing and bearing the heavy load of others, differ from the works of previous period. Secondly, the poems of Kneel down in the burning sun are the christian poems that confess his own loneliness and the gap from God. Thirdly In front of your love, his posthumous manuscripts, shows what is the end of his poetic ideal. For all his life, Park wrote poems of the pursuit of ideal world, ‘Nature’→‘Mankind’→‘God’. By this anthology, he arrived at the world of poetry of tolerance and living together of all the ‘Nature’ and 'Life, finally. Especially Susokyounga(poems of water made stone) is the song of the happiness and the gratitude for achievement the world of harmony of ‘Nature’ and ‘Me’, ‘God’ and ‘Me’, ‘You’ and ‘Me’. In conclusion, at the later part of his life, Park Du Jin could arrive at the poetic world of tolerance and living together of all the ‘Nature’ and 'Life.
