본고는 1차 교육과정기 작문 교과서를 연구하여 순수문학의 개념이 보편적인 문학 개념으로 제도화되는 과정을 고찰하였다. 작문 교과서는 읽고 쓰는 과정을 학습하는 교재지만, 글쓰기의 전형을 제공한다는 점에서 중요한 연구 대상이다. 작문 교과는 1차 교육과정기 주요 선택과목이었으며, 많은 문학 지문이 수록되었다는 점에서 현대문학 정전화의 중요한 논의 대상이다. 1차 교육과정기 작문 교과서는 글쓰기 개념을 ‘문학’으로 한정하여 전문성을 강조했으며, 윤리적 관점에서 글쓰기를 논의함으로써, 글쓰기의 계몽주의를 강조했다. 이는 순수문학론과의 연관성 속에서 글쓰기 개념을 형성해나갔다. 1차 교육과정기 작문 교과서의 특징은 선택된 지문의 저자를 수치화하는 과정에서 순수문학과의 연관성이 잘 드러난다. 작문 교과서의 저자들은 대부분 당시 문단에서 영향력을 발휘했던 문인들이 대부분이었으며, 이 문인들은 자신들의 작품을 작문 교과서의 지문으로 주로 활용하였다. 또한 순수문학론자들의 작품, 납북된 문인들의 작품 등만을 작문 교과서의 지문으로 선택함으로써, 월북 문인들의 작품을 배제하는 효과를 낳았고 이는 자연스럽게 작문 교과서의 정치성을 강화하는 효과를 가져왔다. 이상의 내용을 통해, 본고는 1차 교육과정기 작문교과서는 당시 문단에 지배적이었던 순수문학론을 보편적인 문학론으로 전형화하는 데에 기여했다는 사실을 밝혔다는 의의를 지닌다.
This study examines the institutionalizing process of the “Pure Literature” in the 1950s through review of the composition textbooks according to the 1st National curriculum. Learning to read and write, composition textbooks provided a canon of writing. Therefore this is an important research subject. The composition according to the 1st National curriculum was a major elective course and contained literary example sentence. The composition textbooks according to the 1st National curriculum emphasized the professionalism by restricting the concept of composition to literature and emphasized the enlightenment of composition. Also this textbooks were described in nationalism. In other words, “Pure Literature” opposed to proletarian literature of North Korea was the key concept in the composition textbooks. Features of this textbook emerged in the selected literary person and the quoted example sentence. The authors of composition textbooks were famous literary writers. They strenuously insisted on “Pure Literature” and selected only sample sentence of “Pure Literature”. Consequently, Non-Pure Literature was denied naturally. Therefore the composition textbooks according to the 1st National curriculum was very political. In conclusion, the composition textbooks according to the 1st National curriculum contributed to canonization of the “Pure Literature”.
