This paper aims to explain the historical orthography, that is non-phoneticism spells in Korean orthography. This term appeared BOTHONGHAKGYOYONG EONMUN CHEOLJABEOB(普通學校用 諺文綴字法: the Korean orthography care for elementary school) made by the Japanese in 1911. But this term were disappeared HANGEUL-MACHUMBEOB-TONGIL-AN(한글마춤법통일안: the first rules of Korean Spelling) in 1933. Many of Korean linguists were interested in non-phoneticism spells in Korean during the established Korean orthography, because the standards of Korean writing method were not enacted from invented Korean Alphabets in 1446. Language is change continually, but the orthography are not go after language change. Specially writing methods has conservative character. The historical orthography means traditional writing method. The initial sound of words were not reflected, final consonant used to sevens, Chinse characters wrote non-standards(informal term or sound) etc, for example. The present orthography are remain 'no-reason' or 'unknown cause of etymologic' and sounds of Chinese characters. So the term of historical orthography pointless in present orthography.
