본 연구의 취지는 한국어에서 ‘키가 크다’라고 하는데 중국어에서는 왜 ‘个子高(키가 높다)’라고 하는지 또한 중국어에서는 ‘你多大？’라고 질문할 때 왜 키를 물어보는 것이 아니라 나이를 물어보는지 하는 의문에서 출발하였다. 인지언어학이 발달하면서 두 개의 언어 비교연구에서 인지적으로 공통점과 차이점을 밝히는 데 주목한다. 인간이 사물에 대한 인지방식이 언어의 선택에 관여한다. 인지방식이 다르면 선택한 언어도 다르게 나타난다. 기존의 한·중 공간형용사 비교연구에는 단지 차이점을 나열하였을 뿐 차이점의 원인을 밝히지 않는 유감이 있다. 본고는 한국어 ‘크다’와 중국어 ‘大’의 기본의미를 비교하고 더 나아가 인지적으로 그 차이점을 설명하고자 한다. 본 연구를 통해 한국어 및 중국어 학습자에게 도움을 줄 뿐만 아니라 현장 교육자에게도 양 언어 간의 차이성에 대해 설명의 길을 열어준다. 양 언어의 차이성을 설명할 때 단지 언어관습이라는 설명을 하기보다 인지적인 원인으로 차이성을 설명하면 보다 설득력이 있는 설명을 할 수 있다. ‘크다’와 ‘大’는 ‘넓이’, ‘부피’, ‘강도’ 등을 나타낼 때 공통성을 지니고 있다. 이것은 한국인과 중국인이 ‘크기’를 나타내는 공간에 대한 인식이 같기 때문이다. ‘길이’, ‘높이’, ‘수량’, ‘힘’, ‘나이’, ‘밤, 대추 알 따위’에서 차이를 보이고 있다. 특히 한국인과 중국인은 ‘키’에 대한 인식에서 많은 차이를 보이고 있다. 한국인은 사람의 ‘키’를 인식할 때 3차원으로 인식하고 중국인은 1차원으로 인식한다.
The purpose of this paper is to discover the curiosity why in Korean people say ‘height is big’ but in China people say ‘height is tall’. Also why in China ‘*How big are you(How old are you)’? means asking for the age not the height. As Cognitive Linguistics develops, the research concentrates in the similarity and the difference between Korean and Chinese. Humans views on the objects affects language selection. If the cognition mode is different then the language selection is different. Previous study about the ‘difference between the analysis of Dimensional Adjective in Korean-Chinese’ only listed the difference of the two language not the reason of the differences. This research paper will explain the basic difference between Korean ‘keu-da’ and China ‘da(大)’ and further more explain the difference cognitively. This research paper will help Korean or Chinese learner and the educators. When educators explain the difference cognitively not as the custom of language, it will be more persuasive. In Korea and China, ‘keu-da’ and ‘da(大)’ is used when describing ‘width’, ‘volume’ and ‘strength’. Both country uses same describing words and this is because Korean and Chinese recognizes the ‘size’ in the same way. The difference shows in when describing ‘length’, ‘height’, ‘amount’, ‘power’, ‘age’ and ‘egg’. There are especially big difference in ‘height’. Koreans recognize human height in three-dimensional way on the other hand Chinese recognize human height in one-dimensional way.
