이 글은 유학사상의 입장에서, 현대인이 지니고 있는 권위와 권위의식에 대한 올바른 인식을 지적하고자 하여 서술한 것이다. 따라서 2장은 권(權)의 근원은 무엇이며 그 발현은 어디에 말미암고 있는가 하는 것에 대한 서술이었다. 이를 살핀 결과 권(權)이란 본질적인 실체가 아니라 경(經)의 발현현상이었다. 경(經)은 천지의 실체이며 권(權)은 그 실체를 실현하는 방법으로서 여기에서 경권론(經權論)이 제시되었던 것이다. 이에 대하여 권위란 권을 실현하는 위엄인 것이니, 이는 경(經)을 실현하는 방법으로서 나타나는 외적 모습임을 알 수 있었다. 3장은 역사적 현상으로 나타난 권(權)의 실상을 설명한 것이다. 그 발현은 시중성(時中性)을 전제로 나타나는 것이니 이는 천도(天道)의 실현 현상으로서 나타난 것임을 밝힌 것이다. 역사적으로 보면, 원시유학이나 송명학(宋明學) 또한 그 경(經)을 실현하는 방법으로서 권(權)을 설명한 것이었다. 그러므로 권(權)은 천도의 실현을 전제로 발현되는 것이기 때문에, 인도(人道)의 지극한 실현을 그 목표로 하고 있었다. 그러므로 현실적으로는 치인지도(治人之道)이지만, 그 이상(理想)은 천도(天道)를 실현하는 것이기 때문에 권(權)의 실현은 궁극적으로는 천인지도(天人之道)의 조화에 있는 것임을 맑힌 것이다. 4장은 현대사회의 올바르지 않는 권(權)과 권위(權威)에 대한 비판이다. 지금은 그 근원이나 역사적으로 나타난 이와 같은 권(權)에 대한 그 실체를 올바로 인식하지 못하고 자신의 직위에서 이루어지는 인간의 자의적 판단을 권(權)으로 인식하고 이를 강압하는 수단으로서 표현되는 현상을 권위(權威)로 이해함으로서 권의 본질과 그 발현 현상 모두가 올바로 그 올바른 기능을 상실하고 있다는 사실에 대한 지적이었다. 본 논문은 이와 같이 권(權)에 대한 유학의 가르침이 현대적 지혜로서 재인식되는 계기를 제공하고자 한 것이다.

This paper write on the authority and authoritarianism as the modern person's manners. Firstly, in the Confucian aspact, the authority(權) originated from the way(經) as the substance of the world. The authority realized by dignity as the appearance of the way(經). Second, this paper say historical appearance of the authority that always well-timed by heavenly way. Confucianism and Neo-confucianism teach the authority as the realization of the Way through history. The authority always have a goal of realization of human moral. Authority is not only a way of politics in reality but also a realization of heavenly way in ideality. The end of authority seeks the harmony of Heaven and human beings. Lastly, the concept of authority in the modern society is not right tradition sometimes. Many people misunderstand a original idea of authority. The authority distorted as a strong mean to suppress other opinions. Real authority and authoritarian is the real dignity depend on heavenly way.
