도교의 경전들 중에 善行을 권면하는 서적을 통칭하여 勸善書라고 한다. 권선서는주로 중국의 宋나라 시기부터 등장하여 明·淸 시기에 크게 유행하였다. 한국의 역사에는 조선시대 후기에 국가의 지원을 받아 권선서가 많이 보급되면서 민중 문화 속에널리 퍼지게 되었다. 이런 맥락에서 한국학중앙연구원 藏書閣에 소장된 『陰騭文註解』는 조선 후기 민중도교의 사상을 고찰하는 중요한 문헌이다. 『음즐문주해』의 사상은 우선 도교의 종교성을 상징적으로 나타내는 주재천의 관념을 명확하게 보인다. 도교의 신들 중 하나인 문창제군이 이 저작의 중심 신격이다. 그리고 불교의 영향을 받아서 인과응보의 관념을 중심으로 선행에 대한 필연적 응보의결과를 보장하고 있다. 자신의 행위에 대한 선한 결과의 보답을 보장함으로써 사람들의 선행을 유도하는 것이다. 또한 위정자의 입장에서 백성의 평안한 삶을 보장하는것이 가장 좋은 선행이라는 논리를 제시함으로써 민본위민의 仁政을 주장하는 것이이 책의 중요한 사상적 골격이다. 이런 사상의 구조를 바탕으로 구체적 윤리의 지침이 다양하게 제시되고 있다. 이 책에서 제시된 다양한 윤리적 지침들의 특징은 크게 두 가지로 나뉘는데, 하나는 善行萬能의 윤리이다. 즉 모든 삶의 원칙은 궁극적으로 선행과 연관되고 선행을통해서 완성된다. 그리고 이런 선행 만능의 논리를 증명하기 위하여 유교와 불교의주장들이 적절하게 원용된다. 이것은 바로 도교의 민중윤리가 보편적으로 유·불·도삼교 합일의 모습으로 나타나는 것과 일맥상통한다.
The Yinzhiwenzhujie (陰騭文註解) is a Religio-ethical tract of religious Taoism, which, in spite of its popularity all over the late Joseon Dynasty (朝鮮), has not as yet, so far as we know, been introduced to the academic world in Contemporary Korea. In this book the god’s identity as Wenchangdijun (文昌帝君) and role in the official Taoist canon was formally recognized by the Yuan (元) China. and the deity of Wenchang maintained through most of late imperial China and late Joseon Korea. Yinzhiwenzhujie is a sort of Shunshu (善書) which has been used in China and Korea since the Song (宋) dynasty to refer to a variety of works with the pronounced didactic intent to exhort people to practice virtue and eschew evil. According to Yinzhiwenzhujie, the human nature is most intelligent and its nature is intrinsically good. All our moral relations and daily actions have their reasons why they should be so. When Heaven above created these things it mysteriously endowed them with something to guide them, and this something appears when the people practices goodness. This book have some form of belief in the law of cause and effect, that is, the cosmic process of retribution by which good and bad actions have consequences for this life, subsequent lives, and even the lives of the one’s descendants. Yinzhiwenzhujie as morality book was a vehicle for dissemination of Taoist internal and external cosmological ideas and moral retribution in late Joseon Dynasty.
