This study attempts to provide news headline translators with a guideline based on textuality theory in text linguistics, while regarding headlines as a kind of text. The headlines play an important role in attracting readers’ attention and giving information. They are a complete sentence or text in terms of form. Beaugrande and Dressler propose seven standards of textuality that text has to satisfy to fulfill its function; cohesion, coherence, intentionality, acceptability, informativity, situationality and intertextuality. In order for the headlines to serve as a complete text, meeting the seven standards is as important as it is for newspaper articles. Therefore, news headline translators can adopt translation strategies based on textuality. The study looks at strategies of translating Chinese headlines into Korean based on the seven standards of textuality and further seeks to improve completeness of translating Chinese headlines into Korean.
