The purpose of this paper is to provide a review and critique of existing literature on sight translation in an effort to suggest directions for future research from a pedagogic viewpoint. Here, sight translation is defined as a form of professional interpreting. The paper first attempts to review existing literature by categorize them according to research methods and themes. The two major trends identified for sight translation research are experimental studies and prescriptive studies. It then provides critique on the literature in terms of what appears lacking from the perspective of teaching the skill. Finally, areas for further research is suggested.
