If the reception of literary translation can be influenced by various extra-linguistic factors such as society, politics, ideology, history, economy, culture and the media in reality, etc., its assessment is out of the scope in terms of objective and predefined criteria. As such, this paper discusses why the assessment of literary translation needs to turn to criticism of literary translation, while thinking about a little more about the theories and methods of literary translation that have addressed to these extra linguistic factors and examining the general features in the literary translation assessment in terms of aims, types and means in a concrete way. At last, we will clarity the concepts and methods of the criticism of literary translation- what is the necessary guidance within the practical and empirical approach based on the criticism of Berman (1995) and Rodriguez (2007).
