최근에 부상하고 있는 영향력 있는 진로상담이론인 인지적 정보처리접근(Cognitive Information Processing Approach; CIP)은 기존의 정적인 진로상담의 한계를 극복하고 개인의 진로 문제해결과 의사결정을 효과적으로 도와주며, 진로상담 이론과 실제와의 분리를 극복할 수 있는 포괄적인 진로상담 모형이다. 본 연구는 문제해결과 의사결정에 초점을 둔 인지적 정보처리접근이 대학생의 진로의사결정 과정과 직업을 구하고자 하는 그들의 목표를 달성하는데 유용한 모델이 될 수 있는가를 고찰하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해, 첫째, 인지적 정보처리접근에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 둘째, 인지적 정보처리접근을 적용한 선행 연구에 대한 고찰을 통해 이 접근이 진로상담에 어떻게 적용되고 있는지를 검토하고자 한다. 마지막으로, 대학생의 진로상담에서 인지적 정보처리접근이 갖는 유용성을 살펴보고, 이 접근이 한국 대학생의 진로상담의 모형으로 자리잡기 위해 앞으로 연구되어야 할 사항을 제안하고자 한다. 이러한 고찰을 통해, 본 연구는 대학생들이 유능한 진로 문제해결자와 의사결정자가 되도록 조력하는 상담가들이 효과적으로 진로상담을 할 수 있도록 진로상담의 이론과 실제에 의미 있는 정보를 제공할 것으로 기대된다.
The Cognitive Information Processing approach(CIP), which has been recently one of the influential career counseling theories, is an attempt to overcome the shortcomings of the stative career counseling and to present a comprehensive model that bridges a gap between the theory of counseling and its practice with the purpose of helping an individual to solve his or her career problems and obtain an effective decision-making. This paper is devoted to investigating whether CIP which is based on problem-solving and decision-makings useful not only for the process of college students' making decisions concerning their careers, but for achieving the goal of their getting a job. For this purpose, we will survey CIP first. Second, we will discuss how CIP has been applied to career counseling by reviewing the previous studies of CIP. Finally, we will also discuss the applicability of CIP from the perspective of career counseling for college students, and, in addition, we will come up with some proposals of the applications of CIP as a career counseling model for college students in Korea. Based on what will be discussed in this paper, we anticipate that the present study can present significant information about theory and practice of career counseling, so that counselors who assist college students in being efficient career problem solvers and decision-makers can offer an effective counseling.
