우리사회가 당면한 공공성의 위기를 반영하듯 다양한 분야에서 공공성에 대한 관심이 증대하고 있다. 이러한 관심의 하나로, 이글은 공공권(public sphere)이라는 공간적 개념을 통해 공공성의 문제에 접근한다. 권(sphere)또는 영역(realm)이라는 사회공간은 역사과정 속에서의 주체나 제도 그리고 기능의 전환을 잘 드러내기 때문이다. 특히 이글은 공공권과 친밀권이라는 개념적 영역을 대비시켜 이들의 상호관계 속에서 새로운 사회공간 구성의 가능성을 탐색한다. 흔히 탈근대적 변용으로 이야기되는 새로운 사회공간의 모색은 국가로 대변되는 공공권의 측면에서만 요구되는 것이 아니며, 사적영역, 즉 친밀권의 재구성과 함께 다루어져야 한다. 특히 공적영역에서 배제되어온 친밀권이 가진 속성, 즉, 대체불가능성과 자율성, 인격적 신뢰 등은 대안적 공공권으로서의 가능성을 충분히 품고 있다고 여겨진다. 이러한 관점에 입각하여, 이 글은 첫째, 개념어로서의 공공권과 친밀권의 의미와 역사적 존재방식에 대한 이론적 분석. 둘째, 근대적 공·사이분법의 비판과 극복을 통한 새로운 사회공간의 존재방식에 대한 탐구. 셋째, 친밀권의 탈근대적 재구성을 통한 대안적 공공권의 창출 가능성을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 삼는다.
It has been increased in variety of disciplines toward the concerns of publicness mainly due to the crisis of publicness occurred in our society. Based on such a problem consciousness, this study is to critically examine the issues or ideas through public sphere as a spatial concept. Subjects, institutions and their functions in historical processes have been well revealed in social space as a sphere or realm. Particularly this study is to explore the possibilities of making a new social space in the interrelations of public sphere and intimate sphere. The investigation of a new social space occurred in postmodern transformation has been commonly implemented in the public sphere of a nation-state. It ought to be done with the remaking of intimate sphere as well as such a study. It is asserted that uniquness, autonomy and personal trust as the attributes of intimate sphere excluded from public sphere will have the possibilities of making an alternative public sphere. Based on this perspective, this study has been implemented as three aspects. Firstly, theoretical analysis to the meaning and modes of historical existence of public sphere and intimate sphere as a concept has been implemented. Secondly, the mode of existence of a new social space through the critique and overcome of the modern dualism of private and public. Finally, the possibilities of making an alternative public sphere through the postmodern reconstruction of intimate sphere.
