상식과는 달리 분석철학이 본래적으로 반형이상학적인 것은 아니다. 반형이상학적 노선은 분석철학의 일부 특히 논리실증주의에서 가장 잘 드러났다. 그러나 그들이 반형이상학적 태도를 가졌고 이런 태도를 명확히 표명했다는 점에서는 반형이상학적이었지만, 이들의 프로그램이 성공했는지는 다른 문제이다. 본고에서는 에이어의 『언어,진리, 논리』(Language, Truth and Logic,이하 LTL)를 통해서 이들의 반형이상학적 프로그램이 성공하지 못했음을 보이겠다. 이를 위해 본고에서는 LTL에 나타난 형이상학 개념과 형이상학에 대한 비판을 살펴보고, 상위형이상학/형이상학, 명시적 형이상학/묵시적 형이상학을 구분함으로써, LTL이 형이상학적 신조를 갖고 있다고 주장할 수 있는지 드러내고자 한다.
According to ordinary understanding about analytic philosophy, it is intrinsically anti-metaphysical. The most typical case is logical positivism. A.J. Ayer's some claims in Language, Truth and Logic is the main target here, because of LTL's immense influence on the anti-metaphysical attitude. It is true that logical positivism have held an anti-metaphysical stance, but it is another thing whether it's anti-metaphysical program is a successful one. If we distinguish meta-metaphysics from metaphysics, and implicit metaphysics from explicit metaphysics, our skepticism about the success of the program is expected to be justified.
