우리 사회의 외모지상주의는 내면의 가치 및 개성 경시풍조 등 숱한 사회 병리적 현상을 ‘직/간’접적으로 야기하며 우려할 수준에 이르고 있다. 그것은 상업자본의 ‘소비/생산’체제와 이에 포섭된 다양한 문화콘텐츠들 및 디지털매체를 통해 ‘반복/확장’적으로 재생산되며, 개인의 삶은 물론 제반 사회조직의 문화에까지 흘러들어 우리의 생활에 은밀히, 그러나 강력히 작동하는 이데올로기적 양상을 보인다. 이 논문은 대안의 심미관 혹은 미적 원리를 도출하기 위한 현상학적인 질(質)적 연구를 통해, 특히 청소년 대학생을 비롯한 우리 사회의 구성원들의 삶의 질을 저하시키는 주된 원인 중 하나로서 우리 삶의 행복지수 상승을 위해 시급히 없애야 할 사회적 문제인 외모지상주의 극복에 보다 유효한 하나의 철학적 대안을 제시하려는 의도로 작성된 것이다. 이를 위해 이 논문은 ① 외모지상주의 극복을 위한 현상학적 체험연구의 의의를 규명하고, 이어 ② 수집된 설문자료의 현상학적 분석 및 ‘기술/해석’에 입각해 ‘외모에 대한 심미적 체험’의 초월론적 본질을 해명한 후, 이 해명을 토대로 ‘비대칭적(asymmetrical) 심미성’ 회복의 방법과 대안성에 대해 논급했다.
The Lookism, a tendency toward relying too much on the outside appearances of people, that causes directly or indirectly such social pathological phenomena as a cheapening of individuality and what’s inside has been worryingly rampant in our society. It is reproduced expansively at the level of repetition through the production -consumption system of commercial capital and various cultural contents as well as mass media including digital media which are taken into that system. In the end, this Lookism flows into not only personal lives but also social organizations, and acts as a kind of ideology affecting secretly, but strongly, our world of life. This paper is a phenomenological qualitative inquiry which has the purpose of looking for a much better philosophical alternative view of aesthetics or aesthetic principles than every one we have known, which we need to take to overcome the Lookism that is pointed as one of the main causes of falling the quality of our life, so cited as a social problem that we have to remove immediately to increase our country’s national happiness index. For reaching to that purpose, this paper will focus on the fellowing two topics: (1) the significance of phenomenological researching our aesthetic experience of people’s appearance to overcome the Lookism. (2) a transcendental essence of the aesthetic experience about people’s appearance, which is derived from the phenomenological analysis of the survey conducted by me for this study. From an elucidation of that significance, and through an phenomenological study(analysis, description and interpretation) of that transcendental essence, this paper presents the alternativity‘s meaning of asymmetrical esthetic sense in overcoming of Lookism, and states a method on how for us to take it.
