본 논문은 자본 중심의 시장경제체제 속에서 지식정보의 경제적 가치와 효용성에 대한 담론을 토대로 오늘날 한국 사회에서 활발하게 수행되고 있는 융합연구의 기능과 의미를 사회ㆍ역사적인 측면에서 비판적으로 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이것은 연구방법론의 측면에서 새롭게 제시된 융합연구의 정체성을 학문적인 측면에서 검토하는 과정인 동시에 융합연구의 실효성에 대한 이해를 한국의 특수한 사회ㆍ문화지형에 기초하여 비판적으로 검토하는 것이다. 초고속 유무선 인터넷을 활용한 디지털 정보통신기술의 발달과 더불어 스마트 폰으로 대변되는 디지털 정보통신기기의 상용화는 지식정보에 대한 경제적 가치가와 더불어 지식상품의 생산을 위한 콘텐츠의 발굴과 개발에 대한 사회적 인식을 강화한다. 이 점에서 고도의 기술과학을 기반으로 다른 학문 간에 협력을 통해 부가가치를 창출하는 융합연구는 오늘날 경제성장을 위한 새로운 동력으로 인식되고 있다. 하지만 우리의 융합연구는 형식적인 측면에서 융합연구를 위한 구체적인 방법을 갖추지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 더욱이 우리의 융합연구는 사회ㆍ문화적인 측면에서 융합의 결과물이 가지는 의미와 실효성에 대한 성찰의 과정이 부족한 채 경제의 논리에 기초한 부가가치의 창출에만 몰두하고 있다. 그러므로 본고는 융합연구의 경제적 가치를 사회ㆍ역사적인 측면에서 고찰하고 융합연구를 위한 사회적인 토대구축이라는 측면에서 융합연구에 대한 인문학적 이해를 시도한다.
Based on the discourse on economic value and benefits of knowledge information within the capitalistic market system, this study aimed to review critically in the socio-historical context the function and meaning of convergence studies actively carried out in the recent Korean society. This is a process of examining the identity of the convergence research that newly proposed in terms of a research methodology from the academic aspects, at the same time, a critical review on a better understanding of the effectiveness of convergence research on the basis of a special social and cultural landscape in Korea. Along with the development of digital information and communication technologies utilizing high speed wired and wireless Internet, commercialization of digital telecommunications equipment, represented as smart phones, strengthens the social awareness on the discovery and development of the contents for the production of knowledge and information goods and the economic value of the knowledge information as well. In this respect, the convergence research creating added value through cooperation between other disciplines based on the highly technical science has been perceived as a new economic growth engine today. In terms of formal aspects, however, convergence research in Korea does not have specific details on the conditions for the convergence. Moreover, it has been preoccupied only to create added value on the basis of economic logic, with the lack of the reflection process on the meaning and effectiveness of output from the convergence in socio-cultural terms. Therefore, this study will review the meaning and value of convergence study in terms of socio-historical and will attempt an understanding of Humanities for the convergence study in aspects of establishing social foundation.
