이 글의 목적은 칸트의 코페르니쿠스 비유를 칸트사상의 형성사와 코페르니쿠스혁명의 개념 형성사에 주목하여 재해석함으로써 그것을 코페르니쿠스혁명으로 확장 해석해서는 안 되고 오로지 코페르니쿠스적 전환이라는 제한된 의미로 이해해야 한다는 것을 제안하려는 것이다.칸트는 「서문」에서 인식 대상의 관점에서가 아니라 인식 주관의 관점에서 선천적 종합판단의 가능성을 모색해본 자신의 시도를 천체의 관점에서가 아니라 관찰자의 관점에서 관찰되는 운동들을 관찰한 코페르니쿠스와 비유하고 있지, 자신의 의도하는 철학혁명을 코페르니쿠스의 천문학혁명에 비유하고 있지는 않다. 코페르니쿠스 비유를 ‘칸트의 코페르니쿠스혁명’으로 해석하는 것은 코페르니쿠스가 천동설에서 지동설로의 극적인 우주론적 전환을 성취했고 그것이 바로 중세와 근대를 가르는 천문학혁명이라는 믿음과 칸트가 직접 자신의 철학혁명을 코페르니쿠스혁명에 비유했다는 신화를 배경으로 하고 있다.칸트의 코페르니쿠스 비유를 올바로 이해하기 위해서는 이 두 신화의 아우라에서 벗어나는 것이 중요하다. 코페르니쿠스가 천문학혁명을 일으켰다고 볼 수도 없으며 칸트 역시 코페르니쿠스가 혁명을 일으켰다고 보지 않았고 따라서 자신의 철학혁명을 코페르니쿠스의 그것과 비교하지도 않았다.

This article aims to present the fact that the Copernicus analogy of Kant shouldn’t be interpreted extensively, but restrictively by reinterpreting the forming history of Kant’s thought and the concept-forming history of the Copernican revolution. Of course, the analogy shouldn’t be treated as incidental, but existing interpretation seems to go too far. The interpretation which interprets the analogy as ‘a Copernican revolution’ results from the belief that Copernicus achieved the dramatic universal change from the geocentric theory to the heliocentric theory, which divided the modern times from the medieval times, and the myth that Kant himself would have compare his philosophical revolution to the Copernican revolution. We must get out of the aura of these two myths to correctly understand the Copernicus analogy of Kant. We can’t say Copernicus caused the astronomical revolution, and Kant, in fact, didn’t think so. Therefore, Kant himself didn’t compare his philosophical revolution to Copernican one.
