A Study on ‘the Peace and Prosperity Policy’ Kim, Young-Jae Based on the Kim Dae Jung government's North Korea policy, the Roh Moo Hyun administration proposed, as a tone for policies on unification, diplomacy and security, 'the Peace and Prosperity Policy' which provides a long term vision for peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia as well as on the Korean peninsula. This means that the scope of the policy has been broadened by pursuing peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia beyond seeking reconciliation and cooperation on the Korean peninsula. In addition to that, it also means that global circumstances and situations, as well as relations with North Korea and the U.S., should be taken into consideration. These show that it is necessary to acquire support domestically and internationally for the successful promotion of the Peace and Prosperity Policy. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the Peace and Prosperity Policy of the Roh Moo Hyun administration. First of all, it studies the conditions of the policy by examining international circumstances and inter-Korean relation respectively, and it goes on to the contents of the Peace and Prosperity Policy. It looks over how the policy has been promoted respectively dealing with three issues: efforts for peaceful resolution of North Korean nuclear problem; institutionalizing the inter-Korean dialogue, and tangible fruits of economic cooperation between the two Koreas. Lastly, it evaluates the Peace and Prosperity Policy.
