이 논문은 대학 교육의 현실과 그 목적을 비판적이고 철학적으로 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그 방법으로 우선 우리 대학의 현실을 분석해 보고, 대학의 본질이라고 할 수 있는 ‘고등교육법이 정하고 있는 대학의 목적’을 비판적으로 분석해 본다. 이러한 분석은 ‘인격 도야와 효율성’, ‘심층적 지식과 표층적 지식’, 그리고 ‘국가와 인류사회의 발전’이라는 세 가지 요소에 대한 비판적 분석으로 구체화된다. 위기에 처한 대학의 현실이 근본적으로 대학의 이념적 목적의 ‘내재적인 부정합성’과 ‘불확실성’으로부터 비롯되었다는 것을 이러한 분석을 통해 알 수 있다. 따라서 현실에서 위기를 극복하기 위해서 대학에게 최우선적으로 요구되는 것은, 대학 교육의 목적에 대한 자기비판과 자기확신을 통한 진지한 성찰이다.
This paper aims to critically and philosophically consider the current reality of university education and its goals. To do this, the current reality of our universities are first analyzed, followed by a critical analysis of the “goals of university as determined by the Higher Education Act,” which are generally considered the essence of university. This analysis focuses on three factors: cultivation of character and its efficiency, in-depth knowledge and surface knowledge, and development of the state and human society. The results of the analysis show that the current crisis the universities are facing originates essentially from the “inherent unconformity” and “uncertainty” of their ideological goals. Therefore, what is most urgently required of universities in order for them to overcome their current crisis is an earnest introspection through self-criticism and examination of convictions regarding the goals of university education.
