This is to introduce the theory of Johan Galtung who suggests that ‘Peace by Peaceful Means’ is the best means to overcome the violence. Galtung diagnoses violence and finds out its structure by ‘Peace Theory’. Especially his Violence and Peace Theory shows how the religions became the base of the violence. So, I would like to study how the religions can be related with the violence through Galtung’s Peace Theory. I will have intensive study on the relationships between the religions and the violence and the relationship between the religions and peace from Galtung’s Peace Theory. The Structural Violence Theory suggested by Galtung is already know to us. His Structural Violence Theory has recalled much concern from the social scientists, which focuses on the violence caused by the social issues. Yet, his theory on cultural violence and peace is little introduced to Korea. ‘Structural Violence’ is a necessary theory for social scientists and then, ‘Cultural Violence Theory’ must be an effective tool for the religious scientists who study the conflicts among the religions. So, this thesis is to review how Galtung’s Cultural Violence and Peace Theory can contribute to the studies on the religions, violence and peace.
