The purpose of this study was to understand whether the mentally ill people's level of perceived family support has any impact on various dimensions of their rehabilitation outcomes. The participants were 352 mentally ill patients who were attending psychosocial rehabilitation centers nationwide. The analyses were done by categorizing 173 subjects into high perceived family support group and another 179 subjects into low perceived family support group. The results of the analyses were as follows; First, the two groups did not reveal any statistical differences in terms of rehospitalization rate and symptom levels. Second, the group with high perceived family support reported significantly higher scores in the total score of functioning level than the other group. When the sub-dimensions of functioning level scale were examined, it was found that high perceived family support group had significantly higher functioning in daily living activity skills and social relationship dimensions than low perceived family support group. Third, the high perceived family support group reported significantly higher scores in the total score of quality of life scale and in the sub-dimension of positive self awareness than low perceived family support. Fourth, compared to low family support group, high family support group reported significantly higher score in the total score of occupational exploration efficacy scale. These results indicated that support from family members has a positive impact on the mentally ill people's functioning level, quality of life, and occupational exploration efficacy. Implications of the research findings were discussed.
