This study deals with the geology, characteristics of slopes and joint roughness of the Mulbeom Rock in Baekryoengdo. The geology concerns the component of the rock, which is metasedimentary quartzite assigned to the Baekryong Group of Precambrian. The rock mainly contains fine to coarse crystals of quartz, muscovite, sericite and other opaque minerals. The main slope of the rock is about 20 degree in terms of south and west, and the north and east side is strongly sloped to the extent of about 50~60 degrees. The north and east side of the rock show scrapes which probably was made from wave attacking from the open sea. However, the south and west side forms a gentle slopes because of low erosion due to neighboring Baekryong Island. The surface of the rock shows about 9~10 joint roughness coefficients(JRC).
