Korean tourism is facing a significant challenge of surging tourism deficit. The number of Korean overseas departures has been increased more dramatically that that of foreign tourist visits to Korea. Consequently, there is a strong need to develop a clear policy framework on tourism needs to cope with a new environment. This study will introduce main notions of the future Korean tourism policy. First, tourism development should be undertaken by private sector. Second, the central government should establish a collaborating system among various stakeholders both in the stage of planning and enforcement of tourism policy. Third, 'storytelling' must be spread in all tourism industry. Fourth, horizontalintegration at industry sector levels, e.g., tourism and cultural industry, should be developed in order to make a tourism destination more 'vibrant,' 'living,' 'entertaining.' Lastly, local tourism entities should strengthen their marketing abilities by themselves.
