본 연구는 우리나라 읍면동 주민자치센터의 성공적인 정착과 활성화를 위해 필요한 요인들을 점검하는 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 국내외 주민자치 이론과 제도를 고찰하고 주민자치센터에 대한 지방자치단체 공무원과 주민자치위원의 인식조사를 실시하여 주민자치센터의 바람직한 활성화 방안을 모색하였다. 연구 결과, 주민자치센터 활성화에 영향을 미치는 것은 민관협력의 증진, 주민자치센터의 프로그램 확대, 주민자치위원의 대표성 확보 요인이었다. 특히, 공무원은 주민자치센터의 프로그램 확대가 주민자치센터 활성화에 가장 큰 영향을 미친다고 인식하고 있고, 주민자치위원은 민관협력의 증진이 주민자치센터 활성화에 가장 큰 영향을 미친다고 보았다.
This study attempts to analyze the key factors to vitalize the Residents Autonomy Center. We considered current operation situation and problems of the Residents Autonomy Center, and the theories and systems of the Residents Autonomy. In addition, we surveyed questionnaire of local government officials and local residents who take charge of the Residents Autonomy. Finally, we try to suggest the strategies to improve Residents Autonomy Center. As a result, we found out that expansion of the collaboration and cooperation with local government officials and local residents, and expansion of the programs of the Residents Autonomy Center are important
