This paper attempts text linguistic analysis which is rarely dealt with in Korean-Japanese translation and looks into how the different use of cohesion devices in Korean and Japanese news article texts, found through the analysis, can be adopted in Korean-Japanese translation. When examined the use of lexical cohesion and demonstratives in Korean and Japanese magazine article texts, lexical cohesion is more frequently used in the Korean texts than in their counterparts;and in Japanese news article texts, ellipsis of lexical cohesion is noticeable particularly in the description of events in chronological order. As for demonstratives, Japanese news article texts oftentimes use ‘그’ type demonstratives while Korean news article texts prefer ‘이’ type demonstratives. However, the review of actual Korean-Japanese translation texts finds that such different use of cohesion devices is not applied in the translation process. This paper points out that there is a need to employ the different use of cohesion devices in translation strategy and provides a solution to the issue.
