1950년대 한국대중영화는 주체 구성과 관련한 사회적 실천을 보여준다. 전후 의 특수한 상황 속에서 미국문화는 민주주의와 자본주의적 풍요를 상징하는 것 으로 욕망되었다. 그러나 대중, 특히 남성은 이러한 욕망에 매혹되는 경험이 주는 쾌락과 함께 함께 사회구조의 급변에 따른 혼란을 느꼈을 것이다. 따라서 남성들은 상징적 차원에서나마 문제해결을 모색하게 되었으며 여성을 성적으 로 대상화해 온 상업적 산물로서의 영화를 통해 여성을 미국적 산물과 함께 물신화함으로써 거세불안을 극복하고자 한다. 이런 관점에서 자유부인은 여 성을 자본주의적 교환체계 속에 위치시킨 후 타자화하는 장면을 보여주며 지옥화｝역시 양공주를 괴물적으로 재현함으로써 당시 남성들이 두려워하던 것이 무엇인지를 짐작케 한다. 그러나 여성을 공적 영역으로부터 축출하려는 상징적 시도에도 불구하고 사회적 변화의 요구는 긴급한 것이었다. 이러한 맥락에서 1950년대 대중영화 속의 여성은 성차화라는 의제를 둘러싼 정당성 경쟁이 역사적으로 실재했음을 증거하는 존재가 될 수 있을 것이다.

In that aspect, Film as a product of comercialism and very functional media represented women as sexual objects had been used to disavow castration anxiety through making fetish of women and things from America.Madam Freedomshows the impressive scenes placing women in the capitalistic exchange system and then make them Other.The Flower in Hell , also r e v e a l s w h a t w a s s o d a n g e r o u s t h i n g t o m e n i n p o s t - w a r p e r i o d as representing Korean military comfort women monstrously. But, inspite of those symbolic attempts to exclude women from official realm, it was u n a v o i d a b l e t h a t t h e p r e s u r e o f social change was a matter a great emergency.
