문화콘텐츠가 갖는 산업적 가치와 이데올로기적 가치가 날로 커지는 현실 속에서도 특히 아동용(가족용) TV 애니메이션은 흔히 아동(물론 청소년이나 성인까지도 포함되지만)을 주 수용층으로 삼아 TV 시리즈 물이나 영화로 그리고이후의 DVD 등으로 제작·유포된다는 점에서 다른 어느 장르에 비해서도 그 중요성이 가장 크다 하겠다. 하지만 우리나라의 경우 이 장르의 경쟁력이 여전히 취약하고 창작이나 개발을 위한 방법론도 제대로 구축되어 있지 못하고 있어,본 고에서는 애니메이션 강국인 미국의 모범적인 세 콘텐츠를 면밀히 검토하여스토리텔링이나 인문적 상상력과 관련된 창작방법론을 모색하고자 하였다. 1. Mummies Alive는 선과 악이 뚜렷이 대립하고 격렬한 액션과 전투를 동반하 는 등 스펙터클한 액션물로서의 강점을 유감없이 선보이면서도, 동시에 선악의대결구도에 신들을 개입시킴으로써 긍정-상반-어긋남-부정의 부정으로 이어지는 풍요롭고 박진감 넘치는 다층적인 대립구도를 만들어 냈으며, 단순한 완력만의 대결이 아니라 기발한 기지의 발휘가 승패를 좌우하는 지적 게임의 재미를덧붙였다. 또한 웨스턴 게이트 같은 비밀의 문을 두어 고대와 현세, 신과 인간, 그리고 이집트와 샌프란시스코를 병치시키는 몽타주적 전개를 가능하게 하여 아득한 시간과 공간의 격차가 충돌하며 벌이는 재미와 웃음 그리고 신이로움을 더해주고 있다. 2. Veggietales는 시청자들이 보내온 사연을 소개하고 그 해답을 본 편의 연극적, 영화적 형식을 통해 보여주는 구성을 통해 시청자들이 함께한다는 동류의식에 따른 몰입감과 자상하면서도 능력 있는 해결자로서의 신뢰감을 확보하는 효과를 노림과 동시에 줄거리나 등장인물을 미리 소개하고 극을 전개하는 이야기전달방식(해설자를 전면에 내세워 감상자의 이해를 도모하는 이야기 방식)을 택함으로써 익숙하고 용이한 감상을 도모하고 있다. 또한 식물적 상상력이라 부를 수 있을 만큼, 야채라는 물리적 속성을 그대로 노출하여 거친 액션이나 자극적인 정서의 표출 없이, 화평하고 원만하면서도 유쾌한 방식으로 삶의 중요한 덕목들을 전할 수 있다는 가능성을 보여주고 있다. 아울러 기존의 동화나 고전의 적절한 변용을 통해서도 얼마든지 새롭고 흥미 있는 이야기를 만들 수 있다는 가능성을 보여줌으로써 독창적인 스토리텔링에 대한 새롭고 반성적인 시각의 일단을 열어주고 있다. 3. Sonic Underground는 아동용 애니메이션으로서는 특이하게 언더그라운드 세계를 다룬 셈인데, 뒷골목 세계라는 독특한 세계를 들여다보는 재미와 함께주류의 질서와 강요로부터 벗어나 있는 자유롭고 솔직하며 흥겨움이 넘치는 그특유의 생명력을 즐길 수 있고, 속박에서 벗어나 하고 싶은 것을 마음대로 누리고 싶은 유년의 소망을 한껏 만끽하는 즐거움을 주고 있다. 아울러 베일에 싸인 엄마의 존재를 지속적으로 부각시킴으로써 분리불안이 라는 인간의 가장 근원적인 정서를 자극하고 있는데, 이 엄마찾기라는 단순하지만 강렬한 정서가 모험의 서사구조를 슬픈 정조 속에서도 집요하고 긴장감 넘치게 몰아가고 있다. 또한 정의의 실현자가 가진 무기를 소리와 노래로 설정함으로써 시각의 세계와 함께 청각의 세계를 강력하게 복원시켰는데, 그것은 음악과노래를 연주하는 동안 언어와 소리의 반복이 주는 주술성에 기대어 소망이 이루어지고 환희와 힘이 온 몸에 퍼지는 듯한 생생하면서도 독특한 체험을 제공하고있다. 바로 청각의 세계가 갖는 강점인 내밀한 정서적 체험이 가장 고양되어그려지고 있는 셈인 것이다.

'Mummies Alive' has the confronting structure of virtue and vice with inserting gods, which leads to an affluent and realistic multi-layered conflicting structure with affirmation, then incompatibility, and next declination, and finally, denial of a negation. It also added the amusement of an intelectual game, using not only the simple conflict of strength but smart wit which decides the success and failure. 2. "Vegetables' shows the possibility of delivering important virtues in life peacefully, amicably and pleasantly, using vegetable imagination. It also shows the possibility of creatingnew and interesting stories without limit through appropriate modifications of existing fairy tales and classics.3.
